The Lilizela Tourism Awards are the premier tourism award programme for tourism businesses in South Africa that aim to reward and celebrate excellence across the tourism industry. Lilizela is an Nguni word which means to ululate: a uniquely African act of congratulations when someone has done something well. Lilizela is a name that truly distinguishes these uniquely African awards from the mainstream.
These Awards recognise and reward tourism players and businesses who work passionately and with pride to deliver a world class product and service and whose delivery grows South Africa’s global destination competitiveness.
Ms Thembi Kunene, has been appointed as the permanent Chairman of these awards, having managed the implementation of the inaugural Lilizela Tourism Awards in 2013, making her the most suitable candidate to drive these national awards forward, over and above managing the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa.
As Brand Manager: Lilizela Tourism Awards, Ms Mashoto Zimba, joins the Lilizeal Awards Programme to assist in the professional, credible and efficient implementation. Zimba has been with South African Tourism for the past six years, starting her career as a Researcher in the Strategic Research Unit within SAT. Her latest role was as Trade Relations Manager – Product Support where she worked on the Welcome Campaign, Product Packaging Workshops and also managed the ETEYA awards, which have now been integrated into the Lilizela Tourism Awards.
“Given her experience within SA Tourism, and her extensive work in ensuring a seamless integration of ETEYA into the Lilizela Tourism Awards, Mashoto was the best person to appoint for this role. I am very excited to have her on my team,” said Thembi Kunene.
