Jonker Fourie is the current Chief Executive Officer of Emfuleni Corridor Tourism (ECTOUR) based in Port Elizabeth. ECTOUR, a non-profit company, was established in 1999 as part of the Emfuleni Resorts casino bid commitment with Sun International. It acts as an umbrella body of active tourism associations from the 9 tourism regions across the Eastern Cape and its vision is to be the recognised, respected and effective, cooperative voice for private sector tourism to market and develop the Eastern Cape as a viable and sustainable world class destination. Fourie has a National Diploma in Purchasing Management from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, a National Certificate in Tourism: Guiding, a Certificate in Marketing Management and a Certificate in Marketing Communications and has been in the tourism industry for 16 years. He started out as a with his own tour operator business in 1998, continuing to work as a freelance tourist guide for various national tour operators as well. He spent the 6 years at Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism in the Leisure Tourism and Events Coordinator (including trade, consumers and events) portfolio before taking up the CEO position at ECTOUR in February 2014.Travel and tourism is in Fourie's blood and an absolute passion for him, causing it to spill over into his hobbies and pastime. He is a keen travel photographer and runs two travel blogs - The Firefly Photo Files and Port Elizabeth Daily Photo. His other passion is Geocaching and he was recently announced as the 2013 Port Elizabeth Geocacher of the year.
