I have a National Diploma in Tourism Management and I am in the process of completing my final dissertation towards achieving an MBA for Tourism Management and Development through the Management College of South Africa. I began my career in tourism when I started working for Tourism KwaZulu-Natal in 2001. I acquired a great deal of tourism-based experience and gained the relevant skills and knowledge required to operate in a professional working environment. In 2003, due to hard work and perseverance, I was permanently appointed into a middle management position as Registration Executive for Tourism KZN and was later gazetted by the MEC responsible for Tourism as the Provincial Registrar for Tourist Guides and Tourism Services for KwaZulu-Natal. In 2009, I was appointed by the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism as a Deputy-Director for Tourism Regulations as well as a Provincial Registrar of Tourist Guides for the Western Cape. My experience in this position afforded me the opportunity to appreciate the challenges facing the tourist guiding fraternity and to develop ways to improve and make a difference to the quality of tourist guiding in the province. In 2012, I took up the position of Director: Tourist Guiding at the National Department of Tourism, a position in which I am currently serving. I believe that I can continue to make a positive difference in the tourism and tourist guiding sector.
