Johannes Hattingh

Johannes has been a lecturer at the Department of Tourism and Event Management of the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) since 2008. He completed my D-Tech in Tourism Development in 2016 and has published a number of papers in both academic and non-academic journals and various chapters in books. He was recently elected as the new chairperson for SATSA Free State and was previously a TGCSA assessor, served on the Free State Tourism Business Council and the Executive Board of Mangaung Tourism. He was also a member of the review committee of the Free State Provincial Growth and Development Strategy and the receiver of the Vice-Chancellor’s excellence award for community engagement in 2011. He has extensive private sector tourism experience and held the positions of Tourism Manager for Mangaung Tourism and Senqu Tourism respectively. Being chairperson for the Maloti- Drakensberg Tourism Forum added to his valuable experience in the private sector environment. He also regularly acts as an external examiner and moderator for a number of universities. He was a member of the “Strongbow” international project which involved the Central University of Technology Free State, five Ethiopian Universities and the Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam. He acted as reviewer for LitNet Akademies (Humanities and Social Sciences) and for the Journal for New Generation Sciences. He was further an adjudicator for the Volksblad Tourism Town of the Year competition, was a board member of the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut (AHI), the Free State Gambling and Racing Board and Anglo-Boer War Museum.
